Roy Newsome is well known throughout the brass band world as conductor, adjudicator, composer and broadcaster, and in 1993 succeeded the late Harry Mortimer as President of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors.
Until recently he was Principal Conductor of the Bristol-based Sun Life Band. He is a former Musical Director of Williams-Fairey and Besses o'th'Barn, and Resident Conductor of Black Dyke, and has toured Switzerland many times with these bands. He was the Music Director of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and has appeared as Guest Conductor of the Swiss National Youth Brass Band on a number of occasions. He has also regularly adjudicated at the Swiss Brass Band Championship and was a member of the Music Commission of the Swiss Brass Band Association from 1987 to 1993.
Roy died 10 October 2011.
